New Forest Cider

Real Cider, Rooted in the New Forest

The letter Crafted with tradition, passion and a true taste of our heritage.

For four generations, our family has called the New Forest home. It was here, in 1988, that our founder, Barry Topp, started pressing apples from our smallholding. What began as a passion has grown into New Forest Cider – a business dedicated to creating authentic, full-juice cider using the traditional methods weโ€™ve perfected over decades.

We’re proud to be New Forest commoners, deeply connected to this land, and that rich heritage is in every drop we make.

Family At Our Core

The story of New Forest Cider began in 1988, when Barry Topp uncovered a 1950s hydraulic cider press at an auction and returned to Burley determined to revive traditional cider-making. Those early days – a little shop in the former cowshed and long journeys to country shows, fairs and steam rallies – became the foundations of the family business it has grown into today.

Barryโ€™s wife Sue played a central role from the very beginning. Sue set up and ran the original farm shop, before creating accommodation on the farm so families could come and stay, experience the orchards, and enjoy the New Forest first-hand.

Today, cider-making remains a true family effort.

Barryโ€™s eldest son John, now leads production, crafting all the cider each autumn using the same traditional methods.

Eldest daughter Sally manages the office and administration, keeping the business running smoothly behind the scenes.

And Mary oversees sales and marketing, sharing the family story, welcoming visitors, and looking after events, tastings and customer experience.

More than three decades on, the Topp family is proud to continue making real, traditional cider – rooted in the New Forest, and still guided by the values Barry and Sue began with.

The letter The cider we craft

Authentic & Unpasteurisedย

We believe great cider starts with great apples. We press our own English apples in October and November and also source genuine cider fruit from the renowned orchards of Somerset and Herefordshire.

The result is a full-juice, unpasteurised cider, free from artificial colourings or flavourings. It’s real cider, slow-fermented over the winter to develop its unique, rich character.
